ABA Group skills
What is ABA therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to problem-solving difficult behaviors and skill development. Consistent application of ABA therapy helps our clients acquire a variety of new and essential developmental skills. ABA therapy is considered the single most effective way for individuals to overcome the challenges of an autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. ABA therapy has been proven to help with communication, social skills, play, behavioral problems, and daily living skills.
Why should my child participate in a group setting?
Students will receive highly structured teaching in small groups and can range from 2-4 hours a day, from 3-5 days a week, of 2-6 kids per classroom, depending on your child’s individual needs and assessment results. Children will learn how to read body language, recognize other’s emotions/ perspectives, experience different word tones, learn to cope with conflicts, and appropriately communicate and play with peers their age. The most important part is that learning is done while having fun, with repetition and constant contact to positive reinforcement to strengthen desired behaviors.
What does our model group look like?
N.O.W offers a transitional teaching model, where the goal is to fade instruction from one-on-one to a less restrictive environment (similar to what is seen in a general education classroom/ special education room with 1-2 teachers). The teachings are rooted deeply in the principles of applied behavior analysis and work to teach skills in academic, verbal behavior, social skills, daily living, and self-management. We work to systematically increase demands within the classroom setting, As well as increase the group size when appropriate while lessening supports. All goals and skills to be worked on are determined on an individual basis, by a BCBA and are monitored and modified as needed for your child’s success and progress. These groups are separate from our typically preschool enrollment. Children with delays will be apart of a group, until they are able to be transitioned into our preschool classroom with less supports. At that point, Childcare tuition is required.
